Journalist Claims United Lead City And Chelsea In 120M Transfer Battle With ‘300K A Week’ Contract Being Discussed

Manchester United are the only team to have started contract negotiations with Harry Kane‘s representatives, according to journalist Ian McGarry.

The Tottenham striker has reportedly asked to leave the club in the summer, with United, Manchester City and Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona among the clubs looking to sign the 27-year-old.

However, McGarry says that the Red Devils are currently ahead of their rivals in the battle for Kane, having already begun to discuss the player’s wages with his agents:

“Our information is that in actual fact, United are the only club so far to have entered into any serious negotiation with Kane’s representatives regarding a contract, which could be worth around £300,000 – [a] substantial upgrade on what he earns at Tottenham Hotspur right now. Having spoken to senior people at Manchester United, even though Edinson Cavani signed a new one-year contract, they don’t look upon Cavani as the answer, if you like, in terms of challenging seriously for major honours.”

It was claimed yesterday that Spurs are unlikely to sell Kane this summer, despite his desire to leave, but chairman Daniel Levy could be persuaded if a club came up with an offer in the region of £120m.

Such a price tag would probably tempt United, considering their alternative target, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, is likely to cost more. The Norwegian’s valuation has been set at around the €150m (£129.5m) to €180m (£155m) mark.
