Journalist Claims United Are “Reasonably Far Down The Line” With Next Signing After Varane

Manchester United are “reasonably far down the line” in their attempts to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, according to Eurosport‘s Dean Jones.

Arsenal have also been linked with the Portuguese international in recent weeks but Jones claims that the Red Devils are the team likeliest to snap him up at the moment:

“I know for a fact that they [United] do like Neves, that they’ve been working on it in the background and it’s reasonably far down the line. And if they do want to progress with it they can, because the foundations have been laid.”

Whether there is any substance to Jones’ claims, we shall have to wait and see. Reports in the local media around Wolverhampton claim the Midlands club would want around £45m for the 24-year-old.

United are keen on signing a midfielder but, after a significant outlay on Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, and the impending arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, it is not known how much is left in the transfer kitty.

Neves has been a long-term target for the club but, it must be said, he didn’t perform well for Wolves last season and it would be a sizeable investment in a player that has big question marks over him.
