Journalist Addresses Reports That United Have Made 51M Bid For Brazilian International

Manchester United have described reports that they have made a €60m (£51m) bid for Ajax winger Antony as “nonsense”, according to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones.

The journalist claims the club’s main focus at the moment is recruiting the Brazilian’s teammate Lisandro Martinez. It is believed the Red Devils have already tabled an offer of €45m (£38m) for the defender and they are likely to return with an improved bid.

Ajax are said to be prepared to sell Martinez if United or Arsenal meet their €50m (£43m) asking price, but the situation is very different with Antony.

Although the 22-year-old is reportedly keen on linking up with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, Ajax are not interested in selling, and they have slapped an €80m (£68m) valuation on the player to ward off potential suitors.

With Cristiano Ronaldo keen on a move away from United, though, strengthening the frontline is likely to become a priority, so a sizeable bid for Antony still can’t be ruled out.
