Jose Mourinho Laying Foundations For New Dynasty At United With Possible 3 Cup Wins This Campaign

Jose Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford may have been a bit of an underwhelming one so far, but it can still be a big success.

The former Chelsea boss was handed the job he had been eyeing up for years after protracted talks with the Red Devils hierarchy over the summer, and it seemed that the club had finally made a powerful statement after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

With the arrival of former La Liga rival, Pep Guardiola, at Manchester City, it looked as if the title would be going no further than Manchester this season.

However, things have not panned out as they appeared before the start of the season, with both managers having endured their fair share of stick so far this term.

Being only in February there is still a long way to go in the Premier League, and other competitions, before any conclusive judgements can be made, however, the Portuguese can make a success of his maiden term in his dream job.

Whilst many were expecting a league title at Old Trafford, having appointed the ‘Special One’, splashed on signings and landed one of the most revered strikers in world football on a free.

Their league form had been disappointing and, whilst they still remain sixth in the league, things are looking up since a 4-0 hammering at Stamford Bridge earlier this term.

Mourinho has taken his side on a 15 match unbeaten run since he visited his old club, a feat not achieved since Sir Alex was in the hot seat.

Having comprehensively beaten champions Leicester at the weekend, the Portuguese’s side are joints points off the top four and are the most in form side of the chasing pack.

Before the Red Devils can safely consolidate a spot in the top four, which they look on course to do, there are a number of trophies still well within their sights.

First up is the EFL Cup final against an out of form Southampton. Whilst the Saints have managed to keep their League Cup form away from their Premier League troubles, given Mourinho’s record in the competition you would expect United to come away with the first major trophy of the season.

A trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn in the FA Cup should see the Red Devils safely through as they look to defend their title from last term, whilst the Europa League presents the perfect opportunity for Mourinho to prepare his side for the test of Champions League football once again.

With the summer additions having gelled well after a rusty start the former Real Madrid boss will, with a sprinkling of silverware this term and some canny additions, have a squad ready to take on the world come next season.

In terms of a Premier League title this season may not seem a successful one, however, looking back on it in a season or two’s time, it could well be the start of something big as United could finish with anything from 3 trophies to an unlikely 0 trophies as they are still in good shape in the FA Cup, Europa League and obviously the EFL Cup.
