Former Premier League midfielder Joe Cole has questioned whether Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United after a poor spell at the club.
Rashford had his worst season in a United shirt last season, and although there have been positives this year, he still isn’t firing at his brilliant best.
United are coming off a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, in which the English attacker had a couple of chances to break the deadlock, but he was unable to score.
His last goal came in Manchester United’s 3-3 draw against Porto in the Europa League, which was one of the games that the United higher-ups have used to assess Erik Ten Hag’s future at the club.
Paddy Power’s latest star signing Joe Cole was speaking ahead of the international break. To get his tips and predictions every week, visit Paddy Power News, he said: “Marcus Rashford is a super talented player and he’s done some incredible things in his career, but you want to improve his body language.
“I don’t know whether it’s the environment at Manchester United or if it’s him, but he doesn’t look happy.
“His body language on the pitch is something that he could focus on. Form is temporary and class is permanent, so he will come back to his best as he’s a class player, but I think if he applies himself to be positive with his body language, how he plays and everything else daily, I’m sure we’ll see an improvement from him.”
Marcus Rashford’s steady start to the season
The United attacker can be, on his day, one of the most impactful forwards in the Premier League and he has shown it albeit in glimpses so far this season.
Over his 10 appearances in all competitions this season, Rashford scored four goals and provided two assists for Erik Ten Hag’s team which isn’t too bad a start.
However, it hasn’t been enough for the United man to get an England call-up making it over six months since his last appearance for the Three Lions which came in a friendly against Brazil in March when England lost 1-0.
Despite his slow start to the year, he is on course for a better season than last year when he managed eight goals and six assists in 43 matches.
Could Rashford leave Manchester United?
Over the summer there were reports that United would have allowed Rashford to depart with the Daily Express reporting that the Red Devils were happy to sell Rashford amid interest from PSG in the summer.
However, any transfer talk in regards to the 26-year-old has died down now that the transfer window is shut, however, there is no doubt that if he continues to struggle, Rashford could be on the move.
If Manchester United decide to sack Erik Ten Hag it could either provide an opportunity for Rashford under a new manager. In contrast, he could be allowed to leave if a new manager didn’t have the attacker in their plans.
It is an uncertain future for the attacker who has scored 135 goals in 413 appearances for Manchester United where he has spent his entire footballing career so far.
