Is This United Superstar Being Pushed Away By Being Played Out Of Position?

There are rumors that Paul Pogba is seriously thinking of leaving United after playing just over a season and a half in his second spell at Old Trafford. It is sort of understandable though given the current situation and given the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

The formation changed and Pogba was pushed back. While he can surely defend, he seems restricted by this new role.

Manchester United legend Paul Ince pointed out the obvious as reported by the Mirror, but unlike Roy Keane who slammed Pogba, Ince expressed his desire to continue seeing Pogba playing for United, saying:

“If what’s being said about Pogba is true, that he regrets joining United, then I’d be disappointed, but not surprised”

“I can understand why Pogba might feel irritated with the position Mourinho currently has him playing in.

“He likes to roam, he likes to attack. He wasn’t signed to be a holding midfield player and that’s clearly not what he enjoys or is best at. So why does he insist on playing him there?”

“Alexis Sanchez wants to be on the ball and wants to be part of the action. You can’t have both him and Pogba roaming across the pitch, because then you’ll lose the shape of your team.”

“The signals that are coming from Pogba is that he’s not happy and if he doesn’t feel like he fits in, then I could see him leaving in the summer.

“He’s one of the best players in the world and deserves to be played in his right position where he can show that off and express himself.”

Keane on the other hand said: “I think any top player in midfield should be able to play in a two or a three. So the guy just needs to do better himself and focus on what the game of football is all about.”

To be fair, Keane has always been the old school type. It is expected from him to criticize Pogba who at times seems more interested in appearances than the game.

There’s a slight similarity here to the whole Neymar business. The Brazilian was in a similar situation at Barcelona and he left to be the main man of the team.

It is understandable to link Pogba with a move away but losing him would surely be a step back in the construction of this Manchester United side.

Mourinho should have enough experience to handle this though and help the Frenchman get his form back.

This needs to happen fast though as Europe’s giants might have an eye on Pogba and might try signing him in the summer but a move to any Premier League rivals like Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City would surely not happen.
