With Amad Diallo, Sunderland have got a real star on their hands. The young Manchester United superstar is clearly too good to be playing in the second tier – but is he the best Premier League loanee in the Championship this season?

Of course, Diallo isn’t the only supremely talented player in the Championship on loan from a Premier League club. Ian Maatsen, for example, is having a great season at Burnley (on loan from Chelsea).

Another is Charlie Patino, currently on loan from Arsenal at Blackpool. Admittedly, the Tangerine Army are having a nightmare season, but the ultra-talented Patino is a regular stand-out player for them.

However, we believe that Diallo is a cut above the rest. Were it not for the slew of brilliant number sevens currently at Manchester United, Diallo would likely get regular game time in the senior team.

Diallo combines powerful runs with intricate dribbling – he’s also a tidy finisher, having scored nine goals in the Championship this season for the Black Cats.

United boss Erik Ten Hag is reported to have been considering a recall for Diallo – however, Sunderland fans were delighted when he chose not to exercise this option.

What does the future have in store for the young Ivorian? Ten Hag is clearly a fan of his – but where does he fit in amongst players such as Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Antony?

Even after such a bright season with Sunderland, Diallo will still have a lot of work to do if he wants to nail down a regular spot in first team upon his return to Old Trafford in the summer.
