“I’m Staggered” Simon Jordan Makes Manchester United Claim As Conte Closes On Spurs Appointment

talkSPORT pundit and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan says he is shocked by the news that Antonio Conte is likely to be appointed Tottenham’s new manager.

The former Chelsea boss was heavily linked with the Manchester United post last week and Jordan doesn’t understand why the Italian is prepared to take up a position at Spurs when the job at Old Trafford could soon become available:

“If Conte would rather choose Tottenham Hotspur over the potential, inevitable opening that’s going to happen at Manchester United sooner rather than later, then I’m staggered… Tottenham Hotspur are not Manchester United, they don’t have the livery or the finances behind them unless there is a massive seachange.”

After the 3-0 win over Tottenham at the weekend, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has kept his head above water for now but the upcoming games against Atalanta and Manchester City may prove vital in whether he stays in charge at Old Trafford.

Were Conte to be appointed by Spurs in the meantime, it remains to be seen whether the United board will regret holding fire on sacking Solskjaer, if the club’s fortunes don’t turn around under the Norwegian in the next couple of weeks.
