Manchester United fans have been left bemused after rumours the club are ready to sign Porto full-back Diogo Dalot.
United are looking to complete a defensive overhaul this summer after a trophyless season at Old Trafford, in which calamities at the back cost them on too many occasions.
A host of Europe’s most revered defenders have been linked with moves to United this summer, including both Alex Sandro of Juventus and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld – leaving United fans excited for what promised to be an exciting summer.
However rather than the star-studded defensive arrivals that were promised, United have instead made Porto full-back Diogo Dalot their primary target.
The 19-year-old, who is a natural right-back but can also play on the left, has been followed extensively by United in recent months, with Jose Mourinho understood to be a big admirer to the teenager.
Mourinho is confident Dalot will prove to be a long term replacement for either Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, both who turn 33 before the beginning of next season.
United are believed to have met the €20 million buy-out clause in Dalot’s contract, and are in advanced talks with the player over a move to Old Trafford.
A deal is expected to be confirmed before the end of next week.
With only seven senior appearances to his name, fans are a little confused as to why – given the clubs ambitions of challenging for the title next season – United are moving for the Porto ‘superstar’ …
