“I Had Two Calls” Source Tells The Athletic What They Have Heard About The Glazers Selling United

The fallout from the European Super League could well result in the Glazers looking to sell Manchester United, according to The Athletic.

The website claims that the abject failure of the project, and the resulting resignation of one of its key architects CEO Ed Woodward, has left the club’s owners “exposed like never before.”

When they asked a well-placed unnamed source about Premier League clubs being sold as a result of the crisis, they responded by claiming that they had already received solicitations from a number of interested parties:

“I had two calls from major American investors as soon as the news broke. They wanted to know how possible it was that these clubs would be sold as a result of this. There’s a much bigger interest in buying them now.”

The Athletic don’t claim that these investors were looking to buy United specifically, but it does suggest that there could be more consequences to the collapse of the Super League than initially believed.

Undoubtedly, the vast majority would like the Glazers to leave Old Trafford, but much will depend on who possesses the funds necessary to buy a club that was recently valued at $4.2billion by Forbes magazine.
