After David De Gea rejected United’s first offer to renew his contract, attention has switched back to potential replacements for the club’s current number one.
A fair few names have done the rounds, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Porto’s Diogo Costa having been regularly mentioned, but a lot of the speculation has been centred on Brentford’s David Raya.
The Spanish international has been linked with United (along with Chelsea and Tottenham), and the fact that he is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract means he could be available relatively cheaply (£20m). Fans on Twitter, however, are not sure he would be good enough to be De Gea’s replacement:
I don't want kepa 2.0

United need to stop associate them selfs with mid players.

David Raya has conceded 22% of his goals from outside the box. The average is 13% I want a goal keeper to make saves not pass like a midfielder

Raya’s stats this season have been pretty decent. His 76.4% save ratio is the fifth best in the Premier League, while he is sixth on the Post-shot xG – Conceded metric.
Even so, it appears that most supporters would like manager Erik ten Hag to consider other alternatives if an agreement can’t be reached with De Gea.
