How Much Will Manchester United Miss This 69-Cap Midfielder In Top 4 Race?

Since joining Manchester United from Real Madrid, Casemiro has been an absolute revelation at Old Trafford. United have been crying out for a world-class defensive midfielder for years – now, they finally have one.

There is a problem, though – Casemiro will be unavailable for Manchester United’s next three games, after being handed a four-game suspension for picking up his second red card of the season. One game has already passed – United’s FA Cup tie against Fulham – but a further three still remain.

Casemiro has had eleven games where he played the full 90 minutes this season. Of those games, United have lost just one of them – against Aston Villa, back in November.

Conversely, in the league games where Casemiro has not played the full duration, United have won six, drawn two, and lost five. This is quite the gulf – it also shows how important the Brazilian is to the Red Devils’ play.

Admittedly, Casemiro has had a couple of poor games for United. The most notable example was in the 7-0 defeat against Liverpool – while he was far from the Red Devils’ worst performer on that day, he was still noticeably off the pace.

He isn’t perfect – he is not getting any faster and recent events have shown that he can be a rash tackler – but he is still one of the greatest defensive midfielders in the world.

After the international break, United will return to Premier League action on April 2, when they take on Newcastle United in a rematch of the 2023 League Cup final. Both teams will be looking to secure 3 points as the top 4 race is really hotting up now and with only 3 points between the 2 teams this match will be a legitimate 6 pointer.

Given United have a tough run of games in April against Brighton, Chelsea, Spurs and Aston Villa they can’t get Casemiro back soon enough not to mention their Europa League quarter-final vs Sevilla.
