How Marcus Rashford can start under Jose Mourinho next season

Manchester United legend Andy Cole has revealed how forward Marcus Rashford can secure a starting place in Jose Mourinho’s team next season.

The 20-year-old had a fairly disappointing season on the whole after he spent most of his time rotating to and from the bench with United’s fellow forwards.

Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and January arrival Alexis Sanchez have all helped to push Rashford down in the United pecking order, and reports have suggested that the youngster should leave the club this summer in search of the first team football he deserves.

However, Andy Cole, who won all there is to win at United whilst scoring 93 goals in the process, believes Rashford should stay at United and focus on having a good World Cup in order to show Mourinho why he deserves to start.

“He is a young boy, naturally he will be disappointed he didn’t play as many games as he would have liked last season,” Cole told MEN Sport.

“But, last season is in the past and if he puts in those performances like he did for England the other night, in the World Cup, then I think he will have a great opportunity next season.

“He is a kid with lots of potential and once he fulfills that he will be up there.

“Marcus played really really well in the last England game, so I’m hoping he gets the chance to start in the first game.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed for a very good tournament and hopefully all the United boys will do well.”
