“He’s Had No Goals, No Assists” Scholes Questions Big Game Mentality Of Key United Star

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned midfielder Bruno Fernandes‘s contributions against other big clubs this season.

Speaking after the 0-0 draw against Arsenal last night, Scholes said he is concerned that the Portuguese international isn’t turning up when he is needed most:

“You have to win these games, and they just can’t find a way of doing it. Bruno Fernandes has been disappointing in every single one of them. He’s had great numbers, great assists, great goals, I think in the last five games against big teams he’s had no goals, no assists.”

“It’s really worrying. And that’s why United are where they’re at. I know they’re in a good position, it’s an alright position, but it’s not a position where you think this team will go on to win the league.”

It’s harsh criticism from Scholes. Fernandes only scored the winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup a week ago and, while his form has tailed off slightly in recent weeks, his goal contributions this season speak form themselves.

Without his 16 goals and ten assists in all competitions, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would not be anywhere close to the top of the table or competing for trophies on three fronts.

Like all the best players, Scholes is a perfectionist so it is not surprising that he wants even more from Fernandes but the attacking midfielder is not the sole reason for United’s drop in form over the last couple of games. Collectively they have just not been good enough.
