“He’s choking the talent out of him” – United fans slam Jose Mourinho after Pogba stars for France

Manchester United fans have slammed Jose Mourinho after midfielder Paul Pogba’s Man of the Match display for his country against Russia.

The former Juventus man starred as Les Bleus beat Russia 3-1 earlier in the week, producing both a wonderful goal from a free-kick, and an assist for team-mate Kylian Mbappe who scored both of France’s other goals.

Pogba’s performance on the night was a far cry from his recent displays at Manchester United however, where the Frenchman has struggled to produce any kind of form since the turn of the year.

Such have been his displays in a United shirt over the past months, the 25-year-old has been dropped by manager Jose Mourinho in favour of youngster James McTominay.

There have been been rumours of a potential summer exit for Pogba, only two seasons after joining the club as a world record £89 million signing from Juventus.

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol believes the discrepancy’s in his performances for both country and club come down to the lack of freedom given to him at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho.

“He’s been given freedom. It just looks like he’s stepping on the field and the only thing he is thinking about is playing and going forward and creating and scoring goals.

“It seems to be with United he’s thinking about ‘where do I have to be? Can I go? Should I stay?’.

“All kinds of questions go through his head. That’s not what we saw for France.”
