Manchester United fans have jumped to the defence of Romelu Lukaku after being heavily criticised by pundits for his recent form.
The Belgium international took his goal scoring tally to 20 this season when he bagged both goals during United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield at the weekend – however the former Chelsea star still cannot seem to escape his critics.
Former Everton star Kevin Kilbane called for Lukaku to be dropped for United’s starting line-up after insisting that the “basics constantly let down” the United star.
And another former Premier League star turned pundit, Chris Sutton, also slammed Lukaku, saying he too often fails to deliver on the big occasion.
After hitting the 20-goal mark in English football for the fourth year running however, Lukaku says he remains undeterred by the critics and focused on the task at hand – scoring goals and winning trophies.
“I have been doing it for years now,” said Lukaku after his brace against Huddersfield, “I have to keep going and, at the end of the day, I am at Manchester United and the main goal is to win trophies.
“It was satisfying for the team. I think we had a difficult game in the league [against Huddersfield] recently so everybody was up for it from the start.”
And the fans are fully on the side of Lukaku, many of whom feel the Belgian doesn’t get enough credit for his prowess in front of goal …
Romelu Lukaku deserves more respect. Hasn’t been plain sailing for him this season, but he has improved and that’s all you can ask for. 21 goals in all competitions and his link-up play has been fantastic. Only going to get better.

Romelu Lukaku now has the same amount of goals as Alvaro Morata & Alexandre Lacazette in all competitions, combined. Just saying.

Lukaku has as many goals this season as Morata and Lacazette combined. Remember when there was a debate about them all? Guess that’s over.

Lukaku is gonna score 30 goals this season and people will still be trying to explain how he’s a donkey. pic.twitter.com/ynPajUUJEK

Romelu Lukaku’s conversion rate being significantly better than Aguero, Salah and Kane especially is further evidence that his service is dreadful.
Kane has had more than twice as many shots (150) as Lukaku (71) in the league this season.

You know what, given that Lukaku has received loads of abuse and been deemed a flop by many people, 27 goal contributions by February is a superb return.

Has anyone else noticed how lukaku has improved tremendously in holding up play. Even against Newcastle, he was pretty good in his link up play with other players. Thumbs up to him
