Harry Maguire To Start; Rasmus Hojlund On The Bench: United’s Predicted XI To Face Liverpool

It would be a big win if Manchester United beat Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Defeating their rivals in the domestic cup would add a bit of shine to what has been a pretty ordinary season for the Red Devils so far.

Manager Erik ten Hag has had a constant battle with injuries this campaign, which doesn’t show any sign of abating ahead of this weekend’s cup tie.

Press the next page as we predict United’s starting lineup to face Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper and Defence

Gk – Andre Onana – the Cameroon international was already expected to start even before it was confirmed that Altay Bayindir was out injured.

RB – Diogo Dalot the 24-year-old looks set to keep his place on the right-hand side of defence with Aaron Wan-Bissaka still not match fit.

CB – Raphael Varane – considering the Frenchman’s injury issues since arriving in England, it is ironic that he is one of the few centre-backs left available.

CB – Harry Maguire – while the defender has not played since the defeat to Fulham, Evans’s fitness problems means he will come straight back into the team.

LB – Victor Lindelof – Luke Shaw is likely to be out for the rest of the season and Tyrell Malacia is still missing in action. Wan-Bissaka is available but he hasn’t played for 2 months so the Swede will continue to provide cover on the left-hand side of defence.

Midfield

CM – Casemiro – didn’t perform particularly well against Everton but he is expected to play this weekend.

CM – Kobbie Mainoo – some may be surprised that the 18-year-old hasn’t been selected in England’s senior squad but it is probably a good thing, as he is still finding his feet in senior football.

Mainoo wasn’t at his best last weekend versus Everton and he will need to step things up against Liverpool.

AM – Scott McTominay – the midfielder works hard out of possession, but he doesn’t always make an impact when starting games. Nevertheless, due to the absence of other players, he may start on Sunday.

Forwards

RW – Alejandro Garnacho – won two penalties against Everton with his mazy runs. The winger will be looking to cause Liverpool’s defence just as many issues.

CF – Marcus Rashford – the 26-year-old followed up his improved display in the Manchester derby with another positive performance against the Toffees.

He usually performs well versus Liverpool and fans will be hoping he gets on the scoresheet once again on Sunday. Although ten Hag has said Rasmus Hojlund is fit, it would be a surprise to see him start after being sidelined for a month.

LW – Bruno Fernandes – after some subdued recent displays, the captain sprang back to life with a positive game last weekend.
