Hargreaves Suggests Surprise Name That United Should Sign After Sancho

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes the Red Devils should consider signing Mario Mandzukic if they snap up Jadon Sancho.

The Croatian veteran is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Qatari side Al Duhail at the start of July, and Hargreaves thinks he would be a good addition to the squad:

“Defensively they [Manchester United] were one of the better teams in the league, but in terms of goalscoring they were way behind Liverpool and [Man] City. You can do with a 20-goal scorer but I think I’d take Jadon [Sancho] first and then maybe get Mandzukic on a free.”

United have been linked with Mandzukic in the past but, at 34 years of age, the striker is very much on the decline.

If Odion Ighalo hadn’t had his loan extended at Old Trafford until January, it would make a lot more sense and, in addition to the Nigerian, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has Mason Greenwood who can play through the middle.

Mandzukic could certainly do a job as an impact substitute but the style of play that has been introduced at United wouldn’t really compliment him unless, that is, Solskjaer is looking for a target man who can provide a different option if they are chasing the game.
