Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani and centre-back Raphael Varane will be in the matchday squad that faces Newcastle this evening.

Both Cavani and Varane were injured in the same game, the 2-2 draw against Atalanta back in early November, but the pair have now recovered from their respective leg and hamstring problems.

Fans on Twitter believe the return of the two players could signal an upturn in form for United over the coming weeks:

Varane’s presence in the backline will surely help United keep more clean sheets, and he is expected to be a cornerstone of manager Ralf Rangnick’s plans going forward.

However, Cavani’s future is far less certain. Reports in Spain and Brazil have linked the Uruguayan with moves to Barcelona and Corinthians next month. If he does remain at Old Trafford, though, his experience, goalscoring ability and work rate will likely be put to good use by Rangnick.
