Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is weighing up whether to leave the club as early as January, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Serbian has moved down the pecking order under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is unlikely to feature prominently when he does return from injury.

Inter Milan and AC Milan are the main two contenders for Matic’s signature, and fans on Twitter would not be against the 31-year-old leaving when the transfer window reopens:

United are said to be reluctant to let the Serbian international leave unless they can find a replacement first. Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini have left the club over the past year without replacements being found so another central midfield option will be needed.

Matic’s current contract expires in the summer but the Red Devils are likely to take up their option to extend his stay for another year to increase his transfer value. The midfielder cost United £40m when he moved from Chelsea in 2017 but despite a successful first season, he has not had the impact many would have hoped.
