Garth Crooks Names Two United Stars In His Premier League Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has included Manchester United pair David De Gea and Luke Shaw in his Premier League Team of the Week.

Both played integral roles as the Red Devils kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Wolves at the weekend, and Crooks was particularly complimentary about Shaw’s performance in the centre of defence:

“Two clean sheets in two games has taken United back into the top four and meanwhile Lisandro Martinez, the man who Shaw has filled in for, is still recovering from Argentina’s World Cup victory. The way Shaw is playing I suggest Martinez takes his time. There’s no rush.”

Manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to play Shaw out of position has certainly proven to be very shrewd. As Crooks has pointed out, it may have been forced upon him by the absence of Lisandro Martinez but it is certainly an option he can use again in the future.

In terms of the rest of Crooks’ team, he went with Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock and Chelsea’s Thiago Silva alongside Shaw in a three-man defence.

Aston Villa pair Emi Buendia & Douglas Luiz were selected along with Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze in midfield. Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Everton’s Demarai Gray made up the frontline.
