Fred undergoes United medical as 52 million move is set to be completed this week

Manchester United look set to complete their first deal of the summer transfer window as it has been revealed Fred will undergo a medical on Monday.

The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, who was a target of Manchester City’s in January, will more than likely see his transfer to United completed this week, before the start of the World Cup.

Fred featured as an 82nd-minute substitute in Brazil’s 2-0 friendly win over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday, and after the game, Brazil coach Tite admitted that although he is not surprised by the interest in Fred, he hopes a deal can be wrapped up soon to avoid distraction.

“When this happens, and it is inevitable, they are going to come to us and our advice to them is resolve this as soon as you can so your head is back with us and focusing on the national team,” the Brazil coach said.

He later added: “If I was a manager I’d ask to sign him as well.”

The 25-year-old midfielder joined Ukrainian side Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013 and has since featured over 150 times. It is speculated that he will be brought into Mourinho’s side to operate as a box-to-box midfielder, potentially allowing Paul Pogba to roam forward more freely.
