Manchester United are targeting Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in England.
The 27-year-old has impressed since arriving from Hibernian three and half years ago but, when asked whether the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool or Chelsea would be interested in the Scottish international, many fans on Twitter disagreed:

Have to agree with him. Chelsea or City wouldn’t go near him. Maybe Liverpool but he’s 27 and they usually buy between 22-26. And he would be a bench player behind Thiago & Henderson, probably Keita too. Plus he’s not the kind of midfielder we’re missing.

John McGinn is the kind of player we should avoid

I get the point but Chelea and Liverpool did start their processes with the “boring” players, such as Drinkwater, Henderson, Lallana.
I am NOT saying they’ve been world class but they were signed to get them on the road.
If a player is effective, I’m all for it.

Villa are thought to be demanding Β£40m for McGinn, which is a massive increase on the Β£3m the Midlands club paid Hibs for the player. However, he has grown into a good footballer in recent seasons, with Sir Alex Ferguson said to be a big fan of his fellow countryman. Whether that recommendation has led to the Red Devils stepping up their interest in the midfielder, it isn’t known.
The Manchester club are very keen to strengthen their options in the middle of the park. In addition to McGinn, the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, West Ham’s Declan Rice and RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara are all said to be high on the club’s list of transfer targets.
