France youngster talks up United dream

Rennes youngster James Lea Siliki has revealed his obsession with Manchester United while growing up, pointing out Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign as manager as a key factor.

The 21-year-old striker has made name for himself in France and is tipped for greater things in his career. He started out his youth career with RC Gonesse before moving to Paris Saint-Germain followed by Guingamp. After two years he was signed by Rennes, and made his debut for the Ligue 1 side at the end of last season.

The starlet has spoken out about his dream to play for United, saying it’s an obsession that dates back for years.

Speaking to Ouest France, the young forward said: “When I was younger, in my room, I dreamt of big games.

“I’m a professional footballer, it’s an obsession ever since I could understand. I dreamt of Manchester United, of their stadium, of their colours.

“I grew up with the Ferguson years, the Boxing Day games on Canal+, the 95th minute wins.”

Lea Siliki then went on to list the United stars of the past who stand out in his memory from his childhood.

“I grew up with the Yorke-Cole partnership,” he added.

“Mikael Silvestre, Louis Saha, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo… Ryan Giggs was a monument until the very end.”
