Four Forwards Who Have Been Linked With United Ahead Of Deadline Day

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it known that he wants a new striker before the transfer window shuts tomorrow evening.

Asked about more additions following the 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday, the Norwegian expressed the need to add more goals to the squad:

“We need more goalscorers, we need more goals; that’s a definite. Need someone who wants to break their nose to score a goal or their toe, doesn’t have to be the nice ones, we know that.”

It’s unlikely to be a permanent deal with the club preferring a loan signing following the back injury sustained by Marcus Rashford, and that does limit the club’s options in terms of who is available.

Press the “next page” as we look at four forwards who could move to Old Trafford before Friday night’s deadline.

Islam Slimani

The Leicester striker has reportedly asked for his loan spell at Monaco to be cut short by six months due to the interest being shown in him by the Red Devils and other clubs.

Slimani has scored seven goals in 14 appearances this campaign and would match Solskjaer’s description of a more physical striker.

Vedat Muriqi

Reports in Turkey have claimed that both United and Burnley have made offers for the Kosovan international, although any stories in the Turkish media should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Muriqi is another physical specimen, standing at 6ft 4, and has been in superb form this campaign having scored 13 goals in 20 appearances since joining Fenerbahce in the summer.

Odion Ighalo

The Nigerian is a goal poacher but he isn’t a target man. However, he could be available on loan before the transfer window closes.

Ighalo has scored 46 goals in 72 league appearances since moving to the Chinese Super League from Watford three years ago. At 30 years of age, though, he would very much be a short term option.

Maxi Gomez

United are reportedly scouting the Uruguayan international who has been in good form following his switch to Valencia from Celta Vigo in the summer.

Gomez has bagged nine goals in 26 appearances for Los Ches, but he isn’t likely to be available on loan. He would fit the criteria in terms of age (23) and physicality (6ft 1), but he is believed to have a release clause of €140m which will likely put off the Red Devils from making a bid.
