Former United star insists Ole has to sign a striker this month

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has blasted striker Anthony Martial following his performance against Liverpool on Sunday, calling for the club to sign a new striker this month.

Martial had the chance to prove his worth without the injured Marcus Rashford, with the pair being prolific when playing together this season.

However, the Frenchman failed to have any impact on the game and missed a sitter which would have put the two sides level at a critical point in the tie.

Nevertheless having lost the match 2-0, a result that puts United 30 points behind their bitter rivals, Paul Ince hammered the forward and called for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign another striker this month.

Speaking to Paddy Power on whether United should be in the market for a forward in the current transfer window, Ince said: “It’s not that they need to – they absolutely have to.

“If they don’t sign someone, who’s going to get you goals? We saw the sitter that Anthony Martial missed against Liverpool.

“It’s simply not good enough. He should be burying that, if that had fallen to Rashford, I’m confident that would’ve been a goal.

“With Rashford out, you can’t trust that Martial will make up those goals.

“For me, Edinson Cavani is the ideal choice, if he even wants to come to England. If United can get hold of him, then they should go for it.

“He’s going to be big money and he’s the wrong side of 30 which is a bit worrying, but I’m not sure United are in the place to be picky at the moment.

“Someone like Danny Ings would also be a great shout. He’s scoring goals for fun at the moment.

“Obviously, Southampton fans won’t want to hear that, but if you want someone who’s in form and scoring goals, Ings could be a good, proven choice.”

With Rashford out of action for at least 2-3 months, should United be in for a replacement on loan this month?
