Former Manchester City Star Thinks It Is Sour Grapes From Mourinho And United Over City’s Transfer Budget

After their recent run of poorish results Jose Mourinho has intimated that if United had a transfer budget the same size as Man City’s the playing field would be more equal.

To be fair United’s transfer budget is pretty massive as is Chelsea’s and Liverpool’s while not one of those teams spent anywhere near £300 million on full-backs but City are in a different league for player wages and their transfer fees.

Controversial former Man City player Joey Barton who has had spells at Newcastle United, QPR, Marseille on loan, Burnley, Rangers and then retiring after another spell at Turf Moor expressed his take on the whole issue via Twitter.

The former City midfielder has been involved in a number of “off-field” incidents over the years as well as falling foul of the FA rules and regulations.

Barton was clearly unhappy with how the game was reported and you can see his response below. The Clarets were playing without a number of usual first team starters, so for them to be leading 2-0 at Old Trafford at half-time was pretty impressive, especially with the football they played and that is what people should really have been talking about according to Barton. Rather than the financial budgets of the Manchester clubs.

Of course due to their depth on the United bench, at half-time Jose was able to send on Jesse Lingard who looked dangerous from the off, troubling the Burnley defenders whenever he could and the starlet repaid his manager’s faith in him bagging both United goals to rescue a point from Burnley’s Turf Moor.

I guess at this stage nothing that comes out of Barton’s mouth should really be taken seriously but should Jose Mourinho do some shopping in the upcoming transfer window?
