Former Everton star slams United star – “the basics let him down”

Former Everton star Kevin Kilbane has slammed Romelu Lukaku and insists Jose Mourinho should drop the former Toffee from his starting line-up.

Lukaku moved to Old Trafford in a £75 million deal from Everton during the summer, and has since hit the net 20 times for the Red Devil’s, making him the club’s top scorer this season.

Despite hitting the 20-goal mark for the fourth season in a row in English football however, the Belgium international has not been able to escape his critics.

One of whom is another former Toffee, Kilbane, who believes he should be omitted from United’s starting line-up.

“The basics are letting him down constantly. Sometimes he isn’t under pressure,” Kilbane told Irish radio station Newstalk.

Lukaku bagged both goals at United beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at the weekend.

“His goal record is brilliant. It was brilliant at Everton. With the attacking talent around with Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Sanchez.

“It’s paramount you have a striker who holds it up. I think it warrants taking him out of the side.”

Lukaku bagged a brace in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Huddersfield at the weekend.
