Five Young Players Who Could Light Up The Premier League This Season

With the new Premier League season just days away, we thought it would be a great idea to highlight some of the young players who could make their breakthrough.

It can be difficult to guess who will make the grade at the top level, and who will not, but we have put together a list of five teenagers who have shown promise in preseason and could well have a breakout year.

Some are closer to becoming established in the first team than others but, even if they don’t quite light up the league, they may still leave an impression with some of their performances.

Press the next page as we list five youngsters who could star in the Premier League this campaign.

Shola Shoretire (Manchester United)

With Amad Diallo looking likely to leave on loan before the transfer window shuts, in order to get more first-team opportunities, Shoretire is likely to be the main beneficiary when it comes to getting senior game time this campaign.

The 17-year-old has already made three appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, and fans should expect to see a lot more of him in cup competitions, as well as some cameos in the Premier League.

Dujon Sterling (Chelsea)

The Blues do seem to be steering away from youth development, going by some of the youngsters they have allowed to leave over the course of the summer.

However, Sterling started Chelsea’s first official preseason game against Bournemouth last month and the right-back has been in and around the first team for a while, having made his debut in the Carabao Cup back in 2019.

Harvey Elliott (Liverpool)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the teenager and the midfielder has featured regularly for the Reds during pre-season. He is expected to have an important role in the first-team setup this campaign.

With Jordan Henderson and Thiago not fully match fit, there is even a chance that Elliott will start against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday evening.

Cole Palmer (Manchester City)

The 19-year-old has been ripping it up at Under 18 and Under 23 level over the past couple of years so City manager Pep Guardiola had no hesitation in starting the midfielder in the Community Shield last weekend.

Leicester may have won the game but Palmer impressed on only his second first-team start. We could see a lot more of him over the course of this season.

Miguel Azeez (Arsenal)

The Gunners are currently light on midfielders, and it’s likely that the teenager will be given a few games here and there by manager Mikel Arteta.

Azeez is very highly regarded at London Colney, having made his senior debut against Dundalk in the Europa League group stages at the end of last year.
