FIVE High Profile Stars With Release Clauses That Premier League Teams Could Exploit This Summer

With the Premier League season coming to a close very soon, clubs will be turning their attention towards the transfer market as they look to improve their squads.

A quick way to get signings in through the door is to seek out those who have release clauses written into their contracts. Manchester City have snapped up the likes of Rodri and Jack Grealish in recent years following that approach, while Arsenal used a similar trick to secure Thomas Partey’s services.

There are some high-profile players that can be signed using a buyout fee, and we put together a list of five names who could all be picked up by Premier League teams this summer.

Press the next page to find out who we have chosen.

1) Pau Torres – Villarreal (€55m to €60m)

The centre-back helped his club reach the Champions League semi-finals this season and, at 25 years of age, he is still seen as a very promising defender.

Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all reportedly sent scouts to watch Torres in action over the past twelve months so we shall see who decides to trigger his (relatively) low release clause.

2) Raphinha – Leeds (€25m to €75m)

More than one journalist has confirmed that the Brazilian international has two different release clauses. It is believed that the winger can leave for €25m (£21m) if Leeds are relegated, while teams can pay €75m (£63m) to sign Raphinha if the Yorkshire club stay up.

Chelsea were believed to be very interested before sanctions hit, while Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in the player.

3) Gavi – Barcelona (€50m)

The 17-year-old is an extremely exciting young talent but Barca have, so far, struggled to find an agreement over a contract extension, which would also significantly raise his current buyout fee.

Liverpool, in particular, have been mentioned as a potential suitor for Gavi, but it is believed that the midfielder’s preference would be to stay at the Camp Nou.

4) Tyler Adams – RB Leipzig (€40m)

According to reports in the German media, Leipzig have a whole host of players that have contracts with release clauses. Adams may be of particular interest to Premier League clubs, though, due to the fact he can play a number of positions.

The American international has been almost exclusively used as a holding midfielder this season, but he has plenty of experience as a fullback too.

5) Matthijs de Ligt – Juventus (€120m)

Reports in the Italian media over the past few months suggest that the Dutchman is actively looking to leave Juve, and the Italian club won’t be able to stand in his way if his release clause is triggered.

Whether anyone will pay €120m (£101.6m) for de Ligt, it is highly unlikely, but it is important to remember that he is still only 22 years of age and he has the potential to be one of the world’s best centre-halves.
