Five Alternatives To Erling Haaland That United Could Consider In January

Losing out to Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland will be a blow to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but the club’s recruitment department will no doubt have a number of other strikers on their radar.

The Red Devils are reportedly actively looking at potential alternatives now the transfer window has reopened, and supporters will be keenly anticipating who they will target next.

United will, no doubt, be looking for a young player who can fit into Solskjaer’s dynamic and mobile front three, with the flexibility to play right across the forward line.

Press the “next page” to see the five strikers we have identified that may well be in the club’s list of targets this month.

Timo Werner

The German international has scored 23 goals in 25 appearances for RB Leipzig this campaign and is said to have a relatively low release clause which is also attracting the likes of Chelsea.

At 23, he still has room to development, and he is also able to play out wide when called upon.

Moussa Dembele

The former Celtic forward has been monitored by United’s scouts for a number of seasons, and he continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Dembele has scored 10 goals in 25 appearances this campaign, and at 23 years of age, he does have the scope to improve over the next few years.

Richarlison

Not an out and out forward, but the Brazilian could help to solve a problem on the right-hand side of the front three. Neither Dan James nor Mason Greenwood see it as their favoured position while the Everton man plays his best football there.

Richarlison is still only 22, and while he is a streaky player, he would add goals to the team. This campaign, the forward has scored eight goals in 24 games.

Victor Osimhen

The Nigerian is being tracked by both Liverpool and Chelsea, and his form for Lille this season is likely to have come to the attention of United as well.

Osimhen does favour the central striking role, but the 21-year-old is able to play out wide as well. He has scored 13 in just 24 matches this campaign.

Lautaro Martinez

The Inter Milan forward would be a big name signing, and his release clause is currently €111m (£94m). He generally plays as a number nine and has a decent scoring record with 13 goals in 22 appearances.

Martinez is also being tracked by Barcelona, and it would be a big coup if the 22-year-old ended up at Old Trafford.
