Ferdinand Claims United Should Pursue Ligue One Star Who Was The Subject Of A 71.5M Bid From Chelsea Last Year

Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes his former club should try and secure a deal for Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos.

It was reported a few months ago that Chelsea had offered €85m (£71.5m) last summer, only for PSG to knock back the bid for the Brazilian. Even so, when asked who he would like the Red Devils to go after, he backed a move for the defender, along with Ronald Araujo:

“I would sign Marquinhos. I would sign the Uruguayan at Barcelona [Araujo].”

Marquinhos is probably beyond United’s reach, but they are very much in the frame to snap up Araujo. The Uruguayan has rejected a new contract at Barcelona and, with his current deal expiring in 2023, he could be sold by the La Liga club at the end of the season.

Other clubs, including Chelsea coincidentally, have also been linked with the centre-half but, if he does end up leaving the Camp Nou, United would be the leading contender to sign him.
