Manchester United have had a poor start to the season, they are the only ‘big six’ team not to have hit double-digit points in the Premier League so far.
The Red Devils come off the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford to Tottenham Hotspur after goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke sealed their fate.
United now sit 12th in the league and find themselves winless in three games.
The poor form has raised speculation over Erik Ten Hag’s position as manager with Sky Sports News reporting that as for now, the higher-ups at United will back the Dutchman.
They will assess the performances over the next two games against Porto and Aston Villa before the next international break to determine the fate of Ten Hag.
Erik Ten Hag is the favourite to be sacked first in the Premier League
The Manchester United boss clung to his job at Old Trafford after the Red Devils beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season, however, it is looking bleak now.
According to Oddschecker, Ten Hag is backed at 17/20 to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked ahead of Wolves’ boss Gary O’Neil and Everton’s Sean Dyche.
This raises the question of who could replace Ten Hag should Manchester United decide to pull the trigger on him after a spell of over two years at Old Trafford.
Van Nistelrooy backed to be the next Manchester United boss
Erik Ten Hag’s assistant manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy is currently the favourite to replace Ten Hag should the Dutchman leave. Oddschecker has him at 11/4 to take over the role.
He would most likely take over on an interim basis until the end of the season, with the club assessing whether to offer him a permanent contract in the summer.
Other favourites include former England manager Gareth Southgate (4/1) and former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel (9/1) who are both currently without a job.
The top five list to replace Ten Hag completes with Ipswich Town and former Manchester United assistant Kieran McKenna (12/1), and Marseille and ex-Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi (20/1).
