EXCLUSIVE: Lee Sharpe Says £37M Manchester United Signing Is “Going To Be Sensational” For Ruben Amorim

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has said that Joshua Zirkzee is going to be “sensational” for Ruben Amorim.

Zirkzee joined United in the summer transfer window for a fee of £36.5 million and has since made 28 Premier League games, netting just three goals and one assist for the Red Devils.

Ruben Amorim has been playing him as a forward on either the left or right rather than up front, where he has been playing out-of-sorts striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe, who made over 250 appearances for the club believes that Zirkzee will prove to be a superb signing.

He told ManUNews exclusively via BetBrain.com: “I’m a big Zirkzee fan. I really like him. I think he goes past people, he holds the ball up, sees a pass early, can score a goal.

“I think when he gets up to speed and gets himself properly fit and has a run in the team, I think he’s going to be sensational.”

We asked Sharpe to pick which United player will be the most successful and he picked Zirkzee over Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Patrick Dorgu.

He said: “I do like Garnacho, I like the pace of Garnacho, I like that he can turn defence into attack in a split second, but I just think he’s still a little bit rash in front of goal.

I really like Mainoo as well, though I think Mainoo’s amazing on the ball. I think Dorgu is more of an athlete. The left wing back looks strong, looks quick, looks confident, looks as though he’s been at the club for years. But I’m gonna have to stick with my man Zirkzee, it’s a full house!”

Sharpe says Amorim has no choice on where to play Zirkzee

As things stand, Zirkzee is playing a role on the left or the right as an ‘attacking midfielder/winger’, which isn’t his natural position.

However, Sharpe believes that Amorim doesn’t have a choice on where to play him at the moment. “I think he has to play there.” He said, “I don’t think he’s a natural out and out number nine, but he does hold the ball up much better than Hojlund, and he brings people into the game a lot better than Hojlund.

“I don’t think he’s a natural goal poacher or goal scorer, but he can finish. I think the number 10 role will probably be absolutely perfect for him once they get number nine.”

Manchester United fans will hope that Sharpe is right about the Dutchman, and that it will work out after they paid nearly £40 million for him last summer.
