Manchester United are “close” to securing the signature of Rosario Central centre-back Juan Gimenez, according to reports in Argentina.
Journalist Dana Vidal told Mundo Central 12 that the 18-year-old is likely to seal a move to Old Trafford, but he will remain with his current club until the end of the calendar year.
Supporters on X are mostly positive about the club’s decision to bring in a very promising young player:

United have an advantage now, they can attract these youngsters now and guarantee game time, no big names at the club they get to be the foundation now

Love these type of signings. The likes of Kone, Leon and now Gimenez will all have a massive platform to prove themselves. Even if they don’t make it, we’ll sell them for a profit.

What do fans need to know about Gimenez?
The centre-half first came to the notice of scouts when he played a prominent role in helping Argentina reach the semi-finals of the Under 17 World Cup at the end of 2023.
Since then, Gimenez has made his first-team debut for Rosario Central, starting against River Plate and playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 defeat. He has made 20 appearances at senior level so far.
United are prioritising youth recruitment
Gimenez is not the first young talent that the Red Devils have targeted in recent months. Diego Leon is set to make the switch from Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno for £6m at the end of the season.
The Red Devils have a strong scouting network in South America and fans should probably expect more of these signings over the coming months and years.
