Ex-United Star Keen To Prove The Club Wrong

Ex-Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj says he is keen to prove his former club wrong following his move to Real Sociedad. After six years at Old Trafford, Januzaj left the club this summer for £8m in search of regular football.

There had certainly been plenty of ups and downs with regards to the Belgian’s United career. Having burst onto the footballing scene under former manager David Moyes, scoring two debut goals against Sunderland, the youngster was tipped for stardom. But things didn’t pan out that way after Moyes’ departure. Januzaj was loaned out by Louis van Gaal to Borussia Dortmund in an attempt to provide much-needed game time, but this loan was cut short by the German side who seemed to have even less of a place in the side for Januzaj as United.

Jose Mourinho gave Januzaj the opportunity to rekindle his form with the man who helped him spark it in the first place, with a loan move to Sunderland managed by David Moyes. However, as Sunderland were relegated to the Championship and finished bottom of the table, Januzaj offered nothing but frustration in the 18 Premier League starts he made, with fans deeming the winger ‘lazy’.

Now, after singing a 5-year-deal with Sociedad, the 22-year-old is determined to recapture his best form and show United why they were foolish to allow him to leave.

Under Jose Mourinho, Januzaj did not make a single appearance, and it was the Portuguese manager who deemed him surplus to requirements – allowing him to leave Old Trafford. However, Januzaj says he hold’s no ill-feeling toward Mourinho, but wants to prove him wrong for allowing him to leave.

“Obviously, he is a great trainer but I did not have much of a relationship with him,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“I respect him a lot because he is the one who left the door open for me to leave Manchester United. What I want now is to prove that I am a good player and that they were wrong to let me go.”

It is believed that Manchester United have inserted a release clause into Januzaj’s deal with Sociedad, meaning that they would have the first option to buy the winger if they ever wanted to. Let’s hope we see Januzaj show the world what he is capable of again.
