Eriksen Reveals United Talks But Pinpoints Key Reason Why Move Never Happened

Christian Eriksen has confirmed he did hold talks with Manchester United about a move to Old Trafford. The Danish international made the switch to Inter Milan from Tottenham in the January transfer window, but there had been constant speculation regarding the Red Devils’ interest since last summer.

When asked why he decided against a transfer to United, Eriksen said he was seeking a new challenge away from the Premier League:

“We did speak to them of course and we did hear what was possible and what wasn’t possible. But, in the end, me personally, I wanted a new challenge. To stay in the Premier League would have been an easy solution.”

“Of course, staying at Tottenham would also have been a solution but, for me, it just came down to wanting to try a new challenge in a new country. Once Inter came up it really wasn’t a difficult choice.”

Eriksen made his debut for his new club as a substitute in the Coppa Italia win against Fiorentina last week, before being given his first start by Inter manager Antonio Conte in the 2-0 victory over Udinese on Sunday.

United, meanwhile, instead opted to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon for an initial £47m.  The 25-year-old made a good impression on his first appearance against Wolves but it remains to be seen which player will turn out to be the best signing.
