Eriksen, Malacia And Martinez To Start, Ronaldo On The Bench: United’s Predicted XI To Face Brighton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has a number of selection headaches going into today’s game against Brighton.

There will be no debate over who will start in goal, though, with David De Gea firmly established as the club’s number one for the upcoming season.

However, the makeup of the back four is less clear-cut. Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia are expected to be selected in the two fullback positions, but the centre-half partnership is harder to predict.

As captain, Harry Maguire is the likeliest to be given the nod by ten Hag. In terms of the other centre-back, it could be one of three. Despite his lack of game time with his teammates, we’ve decided to go with Lisandro Martinez.

Fred and Scott McTominay are almost certain to start as the two holding midfielders, with Christian Eriksen playing in the most advanced role.

Anthony Martial’s injury and Cristiano Ronaldo‘s lack of match fitness does complicate ten Hag’s selection choices up front. We could even see Bruno Fernandes as the false nine, with Marcus Rashford starting on the left flank and Jadon Sancho playing from the right-hand side.
