Dortmund Star Sets His Sights On Fulfilling Childhood Dream To Play For United

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji says his ambition is to play for Manchester United in the future.

The 23-year-old only signed for the German club last January in a €21.5m deal, but he has set his sights on fulfilling his dream of playing for his boyhood team:

“I have a big dream. To get as far as possible in football. Since my childhood days, Manchester United have been my favourite club. I’d like to play there one day.”

“But right now, that’s not an issue. I am happy at Dortmund and try to be the best possible person off the pitch.”

Akanji has played every single game for Dortmund this season with his side sitting top of the Bundesliga table.

The centre-half has also helped his team keep two clean sheets in their opening two Champions League fixtures, in their victories against Club Brugge and Monaco, putting them top of their group.

It must be said that Dortmund’s defence in the league so far this campaign hasn’t been watertight. They have conceded nine in eight games but they have been playing very attacking football under new head coach Lucien Favre.

They won 7-0 against Nurnberg last month, while their last two league fixtures have ended 4-2 and 4-3.
