Defender Plays Down Rumoured Rift With LVG Showing His Maturity

Marcus Rojo joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window of 2014 as one of Louis Van Gaal’s first group of signings as the Dutchman began the retooling of the squad he inherited from David Moyes. Rojo joined United for £16million from Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon as a versatile defender, capable of playing as a left full-back or as a centre-half.

Rojo was in out and out of the team last season as he sustained a number of niggly injuries and as a result suffered from inconsistent form. Many fans thought that the Argentinian defender might want to leave the club after his compatriot Angel Di Maria left for PSG in acrimonious circumstances this past summer and he did little to enamour the manager when he lost his passport causing him to miss the pre-season tour of the USA. The player also seemed to be sending mixed messages about the severity of his early season hamstring injury making it look like he was on his way out but the player did the opposite by committing himself to the club and delivering a string of impressive performances – making himself one of United’s top performers in their league leading defense this campaign despite barely appearing before October.

The Argentinian has gone on to make himself a very important player for United over the past 7 matches as he is now a key member of the starting XI and has been one of the most impressive Reds players over that period. As Goal.com have reported, Rojo has therefore dismissed the supposed rift between him and the manager telling ESPN FC, “It is normal, as with any other coach,”

“I don’t ask him why he includes me in a game when I play, so I don’t have any right in asking him why I don’t play when he decides that I don’t have to do it. It’s as simple as that.

“Van Gaal does the same as any coach in the world. He decides who plays according to what he sees during the week, he chooses the players that he sees in the best condition and we have to accept all the decisions that the coach takes.

“He is a very professional coach, he wants to get out the very best from each one – that doesn’t mean that he is rough.

“He wants his work to have success and we have to understand what he expects from each one of us.”

So it seems that the 25 year old Marcus Rojo is developing into a very professional and mature footballer who has vast potential and is capable of helping Manchester United claim multiple trophies with his composed and assured displays in the Reds’ defense.
