DEADLINE DAY: Manchester United Latest News!

Manchester United have until 5pm today in order to complete any transfer deals, before the window slams shut and they are forced to be content with what they have in their squad already.

United are known to be in the market for a right winger, but more importantly a central defender. They have been linked with moves for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire, Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld, Barcelona’s Yerry Mina and Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

With the window just hours from closing, it will be an anxious day for fans who will hope a deal can be struck to sign a player who is much needed if they are to contend this season.

Yerry Mina looks likely to sign for Everton today, and United have apparently been told that Maguire is categorically NOT for sale by Leicester, but could a late bid turn their heads? Spurs want £50m for Alderweireld, who would be available for £25m next summer, whilst United only want Boateng on loan due to his injury record – something Bayern don’t want to comply with.

It leaves boss Jose Mourinho in a sticky situation, as he knows his team need a new centre-back, but he also knows the club’s board are unwilling to pay over the odds for one.

The Portuguese recently admitted in a press conference that he is “not confident” about making any Deadline Day signings, saying: “I’m not confident. The market closes today [Thursday] so there’s time at least for me to stop thinking about it.

“I will have to focus on the players I have in relation to the first three matches, because after Spurs there is an international break and I have a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare them better.

“I have to focus on the players that are available. We go with everything we have in that first match.

“Nothing will happen before the transfer window shuts? The information I have is no.”
