De Gea’s Replacement?

De Gea’s Replacement?

David De Gea’s inevitable move to Real Madrid seems to gather more momentum by the day. The Spaniard has reportedly been offered a new deal by United worth more than 5 times what he is currently earning in an attempt to keep hold of their number 1 who was named United’s player of the season in the last two campaigns and has made his name as one of the best keepers in the world. However, it seems the attraction of home is something that means more to De Gea than money, as he looks certain to join Los Blancos and leave United with a vacant number 1 spot.

Should De Gea leave, United have an instant fall back option in Victor Valdes. The 33-year-old may well be the more natural replacement for De Gea after signing on a free transfer in January.

De Gea’s current deal with United runs out in less than 12 months time. Whether or not he will sign a new deal remains to be seen. With Victor Valdes signing it paints the picture that Louis van Gaal lacks confidence about De Gea’s commitment.

United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer, all of which you’d agree are wide of the mark. However, is the answer to United’s inevitable goalkeeping void closer to home than we thought?

It seems strange that Manchester United would have acquired a player with Valdes’ ability, only to play him second fiddle continually. He’s a goalkeeper known as one of the best in the world, regardless of his age, he is surely good enough to start for United. Another factor, Anders Lindegaard..

Lindegaard played virtually no part last season for United, and literally disappeared when Valdes joined, yet reports are stating he will stay at Manchester United and maybe even sign a new 1 year extension. Surely that says he has been told he will be made the number 2 again?

All in all, I think it’s fair to say De Gea will leave United one way or another. But I would take all rumours of a new goalkeeper with a pinch of salt.
