De Gea Will ‘Definitely’ Leave United

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will ‘definitely’ join Real Madrid at some point in his career, says Liverpool legend and BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman.

The United no.1 has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu continually for the last three seasons, and looked certain to join Los Blancos in 2015 on deadline day for around £30m before the move collapsed.

United are obviously desperate to hold on to their star man, who could easily be worth 10-15 points a season for the Reds. But Zidane’s side are slowly but surely staking their claim as the best team in the world, and a goalkeeper of De Gea’s standard would surely cement those claims.

Mourinho has been quick to dismiss any rumours of De Gea leaving the club, but it would be hard to say no if the right offer came in and the player was willing to leave. Generally, if Madrid come calling, the player finds it very hard to say no.

Following United’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, McManaman said he expects De Gea to leave next season.

“They’ll end up taking him off United, definitely,” McManaman told BT Sport.

“They’ll take him next year or the year after. In the end if United aren’t delivering the trophies that De Gea wants, he’ll want to move to Madrid.”

“He’s a Spanish boy. He’ll end up going back that way, it’s just when.”

It would come as a major blow for United if they were to lose David De Gea, but is the transfer inevitable considering their continued obsession with the goalkeeper?
