De Gea: I want to be the best goalkeeper in the world

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says he hopes to continue working hard and will not rest until he becomes the best in the world.

De Gea is already rated by some as the best goalkeeper in world football, whilst others would put him as a close second maybe to German star Manuel Neuer. Either way, the Spaniard has become the best stopper in the Premier League, and will almost certainly go down as one of the greatest to have ever donned the United No.1 jersey.

The 26-year-old says being regarded as the best in the world helps motivate him further to work hard, but he admits he will not rest until he cements his place as the best.

“I always want to be the best,” De Gea said. “I train hard to improve every day, in every training [session], so I work really hard to be the best keeper in the world.”

“I don’t know who is the best at the moment but this is what I want – to be the best.”

De Gea was also full of praise for his fellow Manchester United teammates, who he insists work hard in order to make their claim in Jose Mourinho’s XI. However, it is fairly obvious that the Spaniard is the first name on the manager’s team sheet.

“All three keepers at United – Sergio, Joel and me – train really hard to be the player who is on the pitch to play in the games.” said De Gea.

“Now I feel really strong, really confident. Everyone trains hard to be in the XI and that’s it.”
