David Ornstein Confirms That United Are Holding ‘Talks’ With World Cup Winning Defender

Manchester United have held “exploratory talks” with Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

The trusted journalist claims that the Red Devils are seeking an “attacking right-back” and the France international is on the club’s radar, along with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

Pavard will have one year left on his contract at the end of the season, and there has been no progress on extending his deal, so Bayern are expected to sell the World Cup winner.

United and Chelsea were also linked with the 26-year-old last year and the fullback is said to be interested in moving to the Premier League.

Pavard is also a very capable centre-half so he could provide cover in that position if either captain Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof leaves Old Trafford this summer.

At the moment, it appears that the Red Devils haven’t made a formal approach for the player but it is a transfer to keep an eye on.
