David Ornstein Claims United Have “Serious Interest” In 34 Goal Forward Whose Price Tag Has Dropped By 17M

Benfica may only be demanding around €60m (£50.6m) for Darwin Nunez, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The very reliable journalist claims that “sources close to the matter” have told him that the Portuguese side are willing to offload Nunez for “below previously mentioned figures”. It had been reported that the Uruguayan could be sold for around €80m (£67.5m):

United are one of the teams keeping tabs on Nunez with Ornstein suggesting there is “serious interest” in the player from the Red Devils but there will be serious competition for his signature.

The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and even West Ham have all been linked with the 22-year-old in recent weeks. The demand for his services is not surprising, considering he has had an excellent campaign for Benfica, scoring 34 goals in all competitions.

Whether the drop in Nunez’s asking price will push United into making a formal offer, we shall have to wait and see.
