Danny Higginbotham: Calls to fire Solskjaer laughable

In a recent interview to the press, Danny Higginbotham, the former Red Devils defender provided an excellent assessment of the ongoing problems at Manchester United and said that the Old Trafford club should completely rethink its recruitment strategy. He further termed the suggestions to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as nothing but laughable.

As everyone knows, Manchester United had a disastrous season this time, both off and on the pitch, suffering an embarrassing 0-2 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City on Sunday, and that too at Old Trafford. Many unhappy supporters have called for the head of Solskjaer, after they couldn’t make it to the Champions League, finishing with a huge 32 points margin between themselves and their traditional rivals Manchester City.

A great multitude of punters had their money on City as they were confident of the Sky Blues’ chances of edging out Liverpool. Danny Higginbotham’s two cents

Higginbotham is of the view that Manchester United must stop focusing on short-term, which has been the tradition since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013. The club as well as its supporters must be patient with Solskjaer as he has undertaken a long-term project to bring Manchester United back to its glory days.

With the current EPL campaign over, Solskjaer can now focus on the massive rebuilding job on his hand. While some people are doubtful if he is indeed the right person for the job, Higginbotham feels that it is too early to pass any judgements. The same was the situation with Jurgen Klopp when he took over the operations at Liverpool.

Talking to the press in this regard, Higginbotham said, “You look at Jurgen Klopp and what he’s doing at Liverpool. It’s incredible, but there’s been a plan in place. When he first took over, he didn’t sign anybody. He had a trial period for the players at the club, and that’s what I believe Solskjaer has done.”

Talks of sacking Solskjaer laughable

He further made his point emphasising that any talks of sacking Solskjaer should be done away with immediately as they’re nothing but laughable. The Norwegian is yet to sign anyone he feels fit for his style of football, to the club. It’s important to give him ample time over the summer to do things as per his plan, whether it is to do with firing players or bringing new faces.

Likening the Solskjaer’s situation to Jurgen Klopp, Higginbotham made a point that from the time that the Liverpool manager took over till now, he has been able to evaluate all the players at the club and decide who all will fit with his future plans and who not. Solskjaer should also be given the same freedom and time.
