Crisis At United?

It has to be said, the last week has been nothing short of a disaster for Manchester United. 3 straight losses, countless poor individual performances and already a small section of fans are calling for Mourinho’s head.

Now, it’s not all doom and gloom by any stretch of the imagination – United were very poor against Watford and deserved to lose, but they were only just outclassed against City and against Feyenoord they maybe didn’t deserve to lose.

It’s disappointing to see star players such as Martial, Pogba and Rooney all failing to give anything this season so far – but this is a team so full of quality that it must be able to change very quickly.

Mourinho will be hugely disappointed to have lost three games on the bounce, and the way United played in those games will be of equal disappointment. However, there is still plenty of quality and talent in the squad that can be deployed in various different ways, it’s about finding what works best for what it is that Mourinho wants. As of now, it seems that having wide men who don’t play on the wings (Martial and Rashford) combined with an attacking midfielder who is off the pace (Rooney) is creating a lot of issues. That, and Pogba hasn’t contributed anything yet to the side and Fellaini is still just, well, physical – not technical.

Like any manager who goes to a new club, Mourinho has brought in his own players but he also has to look at the ones who were already there, and work out which ones suit the way he wants to play. It certainly doesn’t make it any easier for the Portuguese that City have hit the ground running and look like the best team in the country. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that United can’t catch up.
