Corvino Confirms United Failed In Attempts To Land £45m Rated Serbian Centre-Back

Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has confirmed the Serie A side have rejected a bid from Manchester United for Nikola Milenkovic.

The Serbian international has reportedly been a transfer target for the Red Devils for a while, and it seems the Viola were indeed approached about the centre-back.

When asked in an interview about some of the offers he had turned down recently, Corvino said:

“We rejected great offers from Lyon for Veretout, from Marseille for Simeone and from Manchester United for Nikola Milenkovic. De Laurentiis pressed for Chiesa. This is the right way to grow.”

It is not known when Fiorentina received the bid from United, but it seems likely that it came when Jose Mourinho was still in charge at the club.

The Portuguese was pictured watching Serbia’s game against Montenegro back in October with many reporting at the time that he was there to see both Milenkovic and Lazio’s Sergey Milinkovic-Savic in action.

The 21-year-old, who is said to be rated at €50m (£45m) by his club, has also been linked with Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich in recent months.
