Conte Responds When Asked If Inter Will Bid For Two United Players

Newly appointed Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has denied claims that Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has already held talks with the Serie A side.

The former Chelsea boss didn’t deny the club’s interest in the Belgian international but said any transfers will be conducted by his sporting director Piero Ausilio:

“Have Inter met with Lukaku? No, that’s not right, but in this moment there is a sporting director to talk about this and do this question about the transfer market, about the players. But I repeat: Now we are very focused to do the first step and to work together.”

Reports in Italy had suggested earlier this week that Lukaku had flown out to discuss personal terms with Inter, but that United would only sell for €70m (£62m) this summer.

Conte was even asked if Inter could move for Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean international has been linked with both Juventus and the Nerazzurri in recent weeks, but the Inter head coach batted away the question, saying Ausilio would be in a better position to answer:

“Yeah but you’re talking about the transfer market, you have to talk to the sporting director about this topic.”

The forward has struggled for form since his arrival from Arsenal 18 months ago, scoring just five goals in his 45 appearances for the Red Devils
